Councillors were treated to a comprehensive tour of Bath's Mosque in Pierrepont Street last week where they were introduced to the work of the Imam and other Mosque members, including members of the women’s group.
Imam Rashad said: ' Over the past 15 years the Society has worked hard to develop a programme of community engagement activities. The Islamic Society has reached out to the general public, faith communities and groups, statutory organisations such as the local council and police.'
Cllr Bevan, Human Rights champion, added: 'It's an honour to be shown round such a vibrant local faith's centre. The presentation was a testament to Imam Rashad's 14 year programme of open days and outreach work to educate and inform many different communities in our area.'
Bath and North East Somerset's Equalities team organised the visit, more of which are planned to accommodate those councillors who work during the day, but who expressed a keen interest in seeing inside the Mosque and finding out more.
Members of the public who would like to visit the Mosque are invited to attend one of the monthly open days which are held on the third Saturday of each month, from 2 - 4.30p.m. where they will receive a warm welcome. For further information about Mosque Open Days visit www.bathislamicsociety.org
